Job summary

Middle River Power in Chicago is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting for the portfolio of development projects. This hands-on role requires solid GAAP knowledge, the ability to adapt to changing priorities, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.

You will manage month-end close, journal entries, AP, and external audits, while driving process improvements and accurate financial reporting across multiple entities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a construction-related field.
• Experience managing team members and taking ownership of assigned work areas.
• Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience with project accounting, journal entries, and construction accruals.
• Experience supporting external audits.

Responsibilities

• Own the accounting process for multiple development projects through all phases of construction.
• Oversee the monthly close for assigned entities including approving journal entries and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee accounts payable staff to ensure timely processing and payment of invoices and a strong control environment.
• Support internal and external financial reporting, including cost analysis, budget vs. actual, cash forecast, and ad hoc reports, analyzing results for accuracy and reasonableness.
• Coordinate with the Development team to stay informed on project updates, monitoring all activity for appropriate accounting treatment.
• Support external audits by coordinating requests and providing accurate, timely documentation.
• Support process improvements and other accounting projects as needed.
