Job summary

Metric Geo is seeking an Accounting Manager for a California-based environmental and infrastructure contractor. You will lead day-to-day accounting, manage job costing, and partner with project teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The ideal candidate has construction accounting experience, knowledge of WIP and percentage-of-completion, and an accounting/finance degree; CPA preferred. Salary and benefits depend on experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction accounting, ideally heavy civil or self-performing contractor.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Experience with Vista/Viewpoint or comparable construction accounting system.
• Accounting or finance degree; CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and reconciliations.
• Lead month-end close and prepare accurate financial reports.
• Maintain job costing, review project financial performance and support WIP reporting.
• Work with Project Managers on budgets, forecasts, progress billing, change orders and retention.
• Monitor cash flow and collections, supporting timely payments.
• Support audits, tax preparation and improvements to accounting processes and controls.
• Oversee and support accounting team members as required.

Metric is working on behalf of a retained client, an established California-based environmental and infrastructure contractor, to recruit an Accounting Manager.

The business delivers water/wastewater, heavy civil and mechanical construction projects. This would suit a hands-on accounting professional who understands construction finances and enjoys working closely with project teams.

The Role

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and reconciliations.
• Lead month-end close and prepare accurate financial reports.
• Maintain job costing, review project financial performance and support WIP reporting.
• Work with Project Managers on budgets, forecasts, progress billing, change orders and retention.
• Monitor cash flow and collections, supporting timely payments.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous accounting experience within construction, ideally heavy civil, industrial or a self-performing contractor.
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting and construction billing.
• Experience with Vista/Viewpoint or a comparable construction accounting system.
• A hands-on approach, strong attention to detail and confidence working with operations teams.
• An accounting or finance degree, or equivalent relevant experience; CPA preferred.
