Job summary

Pennington Concrete & Utilities is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller to join its accounting team in Euless, TX. This hands-on role reports to the VP and covers day-to-day accounting across the business, with potential to advance to Controller over time.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ in construction, and strong knowledge of WIP reporting, job costing, payroll, and sales tax.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years experience in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including WIP reporting and job costing.
• Hands-on experience with in-house payroll and sales tax required.
• Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Support and oversee day-to-day accounting operations across the business
• Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Manage and review construction-specific accounting, including WIP reporting, job costing, retention, and over/under billings
• Work closely with AP, AR, payroll, and job costing functions to ensure accuracy and timely processing
• Maintain hands-on involvement with in-house payroll, payroll reporting, and related compliance
• Manage sales tax reporting, filings, and compliance
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and other financial reporting
• Help maintain and improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
• Coordinate with outside CPAs and other external partners as needed
• Partner closely with the VP and company leadership to provide accurate financial information and support business decisions
• Take on increasing accounting and financial leadership responsibilities with the opportunity to grow into the Controller role

With approximately $80M in annual revenue and ~300 employees, the company is continuing to grow and is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller to join its accounting team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong construction accounting background who enjoys being involved in the day-to-day details of the business. The position will report directly to the VP and work across all areas of the accounting function, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the company grows. For the right person, this role is intended to provide a path to eventually step into the Controller position.

• Sage 100 Contractor or other Sage experience highly preferred
• Ability to work across multiple areas of accounting and stay involved in the details
• Strong organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Stable employment history and a desire to grow long-term with the company
• Comfortable working in a privately owned, fast-growing business where priorities may evolve as the company grows
• Must be able to work onsite in Euless, Texas, five days per week
