Responsibilities

Salary Range: $105,000.00 To $115,000.00 Annually

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing company. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely transaction processing, monthly close, financial reporting, and maintenance of a strong system of accounting records and internal controls.

The Accounting Manager will directly lead a team of 3–5 accounting professionals, providing direction, coaching, workflow management, and professional development. This position serves as the operational backbone of the accounting department and partners closely with the Finance Director on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and other strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise, train, coach, and develop a team of 3–5 accounting professionals.
  • Assign workflows, manage schedules and deadlines, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Oversee the daily operations and organization of the accounting department.
  • Maintain and improve documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for day-to-day accounting matters, escalating significant issues to the Finance Director.
  • Coordinate cross-training and backup coverage across accounting functions to reduce key-person risk.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and succession planning for the accounting team.
Accounting Operations & Transactions
  • Oversee accounts payable processing to ensure timely payments and capture available discounts.
  • Manage accounts receivable and collections activities, escalating past-due accounts as appropriate.
  • Review customer accounts and recommend appropriate resolution of significantly past-due balances, including collection action or write-offs.
  • Review and record payroll entries to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review and manage third-party credit card and financed-equipment statements and related accounts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly workers’ compensation documentation and supporting details.
  • Perform or review monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure general ledger accuracy and integrity.
  • Maintain an organized, audit-ready accounting filing and electronic document-retention system.
  • Monitor and maintain effective internal controls over accounting transactions.
  • Prepare pro forma financial statements and ad hoc financial analyses as requested by the Finance Director.
  • Lead the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for review by the Finance Director.
  • Calculate and report financial and operating metrics and KPIs.
  • Support the Finance Director in developing the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Prepare budget‑to‑actual and forecast variance analyses and explain significant variances.
  • Produce management cost reports and departmental reporting packages.
  • Provide financial analysis to support pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and other operational decisions.
Compliance & Audit
  • Assist the Finance Director in monitoring debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including sales/use tax, business personal property tax, and licensing requirements.
  • Compile supporting schedules and documentation for the company’s outside tax firm for year-end tax planning and preparation.
  • Support the annual financial statement audit, review, or compilation, as applicable.
  • Maintain compliance with company record‑retention policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5–8+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite is required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and team‑development skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Accounting experience within the construction industry.
  • Hands‑on experience with construction accounting and job costing.
