Role Overview
Despite the manager-level title, this is a hands-on individual contributor position with no direct reports. The target candidate will directly execute routine operational accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close, and variance analysis, stepping into a key functional role to maintain seamless accounting continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Accounting: Prepare and upload journal entries, complete balance sheet reconciliations, and monitor field-processed transactions to ensure compliance with company policies and U.S. GAAP. Analyze material costs, troubleshoot transactional discrepancies, and support month-end/year-end close.
- Overhead Accounting & Allocations: Support annual provisional overhead rate calculations, rate application within the accounting system, and periodic forecasting. Analyze direct labor, material, and overhead costs to facilitate accurate quarterly rate true-ups and adjustments.
- Financial & Variance Analysis: Prepare and interpret inventory and overhead schedules, providing clear operational insight into variance drivers and financial trends.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with FP&A, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Operations to ensure proper accounting treatment and drive continuous process improvements.
- Audit & Special Projects: Assist internal/external auditors during review cycles and lead high-priority ad-hoc accounting projects.
Position Qualifications
- Experience: 7–10+ years of progressive, hands-on general accounting experience (Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or strong Senior Accountant).
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Technical Mastery: Strong fundamental U.S. GAAP background with direct, hands-on experience performing journal entries, complex balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close without relying on direct reports.
- Cost & Overhead Exposure: Practical knowledge of inventory accounting, material costing, and indirect-cost/overhead allocation processes.
- Systems & Excel: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (building data models, variance schedules, and analytical tools). Working knowledge of SAP (ECC or S/4HANA) is strongly preferred.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of collaborating effectively across operations, engineering, and finance functions.
