Job summary

Sporty & Rich is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to own daily bookkeeping, AP/AR, reconcile the general ledger, and oversee the month-end close. Reporting to the VP of Finance, Operations & Technology, you will streamline workflows, introduce automation and AI tools, manage inventory accounting, and collaborate with external partners to ensure accurate records and timely reporting.

• Strong experience with daily bookkeeping, AP, AR, GL, and month-end close.
• Experience using Ramp for expense management and reconciliations.
• Experience accounting for retail, e-commerce, and wholesale.
• Strong inventory accounting, COGS, POs, and three-way matching.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and sales/use tax.
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated experience improving accounting workflows.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily bookkeeping and maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records.
• Process accounts payable, including invoice coding, PO matching, payment preparation, and vendor reconciliations.
• Reconcile accounts receivable, including customer payments, outstanding balances, credit notes, deductions, and collections follow-up.
• Reconcile sales and settlements across retail, e-commerce, and wholesale, including payment processors, refunds, and returns.
• Maintain the general ledger and perform bank, credit card, and Ramp reconciliations.
• Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and resolve issues.
• Coordinate daily accounting activities with our AP/AR Specialist.
• Own and execute the monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile inventory, cost of goods sold, and other key accounts.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by Finance leadership.
• Collaborate with our external accounting partner on month-end close, accounting processes, and financial reporting.
• Support quarterly and annual close activities, including coordination with external accountants and auditors.
• Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP.
• Oversee our external sales tax partner, Numeral, ensuring accurate and timely sales and use tax filings and payments.
• Maintain accurate sales tax data, reconciliations, resale certificates, exemption certificates, and supporting documentation.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to take ownership of our daily accounting operations and help build a more efficient, scalable accounting function.

Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, Operations & Technology, you will personally execute daily bookkeeping, process accounts payable, reconcile accounts receivable, maintain the general ledger, and manage the month‑end close. You will work alongside our existing AP/AR Specialist and external accounting partner to ensure accurate financial records and timely reporting.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly in the numbers, takes ownership of the day‑to‑day accounting operations, and is equally motivated to develop the team and improve how things are done.

You will play an important role in streamlining workflows, introducing automation and AI‑enabled solutions, and building processes that reduce manual work while improving accuracy and financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Accounting & Bookkeeping

• Execute daily bookkeeping and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date financial records.
• Process accounts payable, including invoice coding, purchase order matching, payment preparation, and vendor reconciliations.
• Reconcile accounts receivable, including customer payments, outstanding balances, credit notes, deductions, and collections follow‑up.
• Reconcile sales and settlements across retail, e‑commerce, and wholesale, including payment processors, refunds, and returns.
• Maintain the general ledger and perform bank, credit card, and Ramp reconciliations.

Month‑End Close & Financial Reporting

• Own and execute the monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile inventory, cost of goods sold, and other key accounts.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by Finance leadership.
• Collaborate with our external accounting partner on month‑end close, accounting processes, and financial reporting.
• Support quarterly and annual close activities, including coordination with external accountants and auditors.
• Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP.

Inventory & Operational Accounting

• Manage accounting processes across the product lifecycle, from purchase order creation and inventory receipt through invoice matching, billing, and payment.
• Perform three‑way matching between purchase orders, goods receipts, and vendor invoices.
• Reconcile inventory movements, transfers, returns, and cost of goods sold.
• Partner with Supply Chain, Planning, Wholesale, Retail, and E‑commerce teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate transaction flows in NetSuite.
• Oversee our external sales tax partner, Numeral, ensuring accurate and timely sales and use tax filings and payments.
• Maintain accurate sales tax data, reconciliations, resale certificates, exemption certificates, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure accounting records and financial schedules are complete, organized, and audit‑ready.
• Maintain accounting policies, documentation standards, and internal controls.
• Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors on compliance and documentation requirements.

Systems, Automation & Process Improvement

• Work extensively in NetSuite and Ramp, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and systems are used effectively.
• Continuously identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual tasks, and improve accounting efficiency.
• Introduce automation, AI‑enabled tools, and system improvements where appropriate.
• Own process improvements from identification through implementation, testing, documentation, and ongoing monitoring.
• Develop and maintain clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) and scalable workflows that support growth without compromising financial controls.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Hands‑on NetSuite experience is a firm requirement. Candidates must have direct experience processing transactions, performing reconciliations, and working within NetSuite's accounting workflows.
• 5+ years of hands‑on accounting experience, ideally within fashion, apparel, or an inventory‑driven consumer goods business.
• Strong experience with daily bookkeeping, AP, AR, general ledger accounting, and month‑end close.
• Experience using Ramp for expense management and reconciliations.
• Experience accounting for retail, e‑commerce, and wholesale sales channels.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, purchase orders, and three‑way matching.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and sales and use tax compliance.
• Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Demonstrated experience improving accounting workflows or implementing process improvements.
