American 1 Credit Union is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee all operational activities of the Accounting department, including accounts payable, general ledger transactions, balancing, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and analysis management.

The role partners with the VP of Finance and CFO to create and sustain a culture focused on people, engagement, trust, and performance. On-site in Jackson, Michigan with day-one benefits and a starting salary of $85,750 based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 4–5 years of related experience in a financial institution.
  • At least two years of management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations of the credit union, including accounts payable, item processing, general ledger transactions, balancing, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting and analysis functions and prepare performance reports for Executive Management.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Finance and CFO to maintain timely reporting and financial integrity.
  • Support external audit processes and drive coaching and development within the Accounting team.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all operational activities of the Accounting department. They oversee day-to-day operations across all accounting functions, including accounts payable, item processing, general ledger transactions, balancing, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and analysis management. The Accounting Manager is dedicated to working with the VP of Finance and CFO to create and sustain a culture filled with people who are Focused, Engaged, Trustworthy, Humbly Confident, and driven to Achieve. The Accounting Manager collaborates with the Accounting team and other teams to ensure timelines and goals are achieved.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborates with Accounting, Finance, and all other necessary teams in all discussions relevant to the management of the credit union’s short- and long-term goals and objectives and communicates such goals and objectives to credit union staff members.
  • Accounting Team Management: Manages the day-to-day accounting operations of the credit union, including accounts payable, general ledger transactions, balancing, item processing, and reconciliations. Responsible for managing the credit union’s reporting and analysis functions and preparing performance reports for Executive Management. Supports management in external audit processes.
  • Continued Growth Support: Supports the Accounting team in assessment, reporting, coaching, training, accountability and improvement plan recommendations for the department and individuals as needed.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4-5 years of related experience in a financial institution is required.
  • At least two years of management experience is required.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is required
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, functions, etc.) is required.
