Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting Operations & Financial Integrity
  • Accounting Oversight: Serve as the primary accounting resource for the organization; oversee and enforce accounting policies and procedures, with support from department leadership.
  • General Ledger & Close: Oversee the general ledger; manage the month-end and quarter-end close process. Escalate obstacles or issues to the Director of Finance in a timely manner.

  • Compliance & Tax: Review monthly use tax filings; support year-end compilation engagement; coordinate responses for client audits; ensure ongoing adherence to GAAP principles.
  • Internal Controls & Policies: Build and maintain scalable internal controls, purchasing policies, and invoice approval frameworks; recommend and implement modifications to accounting systems and procedures to strengthen controls.
  • IT Collaboration: Work regularly with the IT Department to update and maintain the SQL database throughout the month and during monthly close.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Provide support to the operations including municipal coordinators and call center to resolve payment issues and client billing questions.
2. Financial Planning & Analysis Support
  • Forecasting & Budgeting Support: Support the Director of Finance on annual and rolling forecasting efforts; contribute data, analysis, and reconciled actuals to inform the corporate budget and cash flow models.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial reports and summary packages for management review; highlight variances and trends that inform operational decisions.
  • KPIs & Analytics: Track key operational and financial metrics (e.g., revenue trends, AR aging, collection rates); surface actionable insights to the Director of Finance and CFO.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis: Participate in scenario and ad hoc analyses as directed by the Director of Finance or Management, providing accounting data and context to support strategic planning.
3. Process Improvement & Department Initiatives
  • Process Improvement: Lead and contribute to department initiatives to improve, develop, and implement accounting systems, policies, and procedures; identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes and improve accessibility of financial information.
  • Standards & Compliance: Research and implement new accounting standards as required; investigate and resolve account discrepancies and issues of non-compliance.
  • Department Collaboration: Attend weekly department meetings and provide timely status updates; execute work requests from Officers or Directors of the Company unless a request is illegal, suggests fraud, or would cause physical harm.
  • Additional Duties: Other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience who can independently handle month-end closes,
  • 2+ years managing a team and working directly with an external CPA for year-end taxes
  • CPA designation preferred; strong candidates with equivalent experience will be considered.
