Job summary

Lee Construction Group is seeking an Accounting Manager in Charlottesville, VA to oversee accounting operations for a family of construction companies. You will lead payroll, AR/AP, cash flow, general ledger, and monthly closes, ensuring accurate financial reporting across all entities.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of experience, a Bachelor's in Accounting, and strong GAAP knowledge. CPA in Virginia is a plus; CMiC and Excel proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; CPA license in Virginia is a plus.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience; commercial construction experience preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of GAAP and accounting regulations; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proven leadership and ability to communicate plans, motivate teams, and drive objectives.
• Proficiency with Excel and MS Office; willingness to learn new technologies such as CMiC.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations including Payroll, AR, AP, Cash Flow, and contract administration.
• Support monthly close processes for the parent company and subsidiaries.
• Prepare timely monthly financial statements with job and labor schedules.
• Maintain general ledger, journals, intercompany entries and accruals.
• Assist with management reports, consolidation, and regulatory reporting.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $80,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, skills, and other job‑related factors.

What You’ll Do:

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Flow, and Contract and Subcontract Administration
• Support the Head of Accounting with monthly close processes for the parent company and its subsidiaries
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements, including job schedules, AP and AR schedules, and labor reports
• Maintain the general ledger, including recurring and one‑time journal entries, inter‑company entries, and accruals
• Assist with management reports, quarterly consolidation, and regulatory reporting
• Manage cash forecasting and support effective cash management
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis for operations management
• Support year-end financial review activities and collaborate with LCG's external accounting firm
• Ensure accounting and financial processes are consistently followed across all companies to maintain accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls
• Collaborate with leadership to develop accountability systems and controls that help prevent errors and ensure compliance with financial laws and regulations
• Communicate regularly with the CEO/Principal and Leadership Group to establish priorities and support the strategic financial goals of the companies
• Promote and support our Safety for Life culture by maintaining a strong focus on the safety and well‑being of employees and trade partners
• Provide backup support for Accounts Payable, including subcontractor/vendor invoice entry, payment timing forecasts, and vendor inquiry follow‑up

What You Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA license in Virginia is a plus
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in commercial construction is preferred
• Exceptional knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to communicate plans, motivate others, instill company values, and achieve objectives as a team
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively
• Strong and consistent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to balance flexibility with reliability and consistency while maintaining the highest level of integrity
• Ability to follow established procedures, ask questions when needed, and effectively set priorities
• Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization
• A strong learning orientation and willingness to pursue ongoing educational and training opportunities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, especially Excel
• Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient with new technology solutions
• Knowledge of CMiC is desirable
