Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate accounting classifications of revenues, expenditures, transactions, and supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile tax (941) reports to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
  • Act as liaison with agency personnel regarding payroll and accounting policies.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret accounting data to support accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and properly supported.
  • Conduct special investigations as assigned to complete projects within deadlines.
  • Update the accounting manual as standards/policies change.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Compile and interpret funding source regulations and maintain compliance with agency grants.
  • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to accounting staff for timely completion of tasks.
  • Participate in the annual financial audit and prepare schedules and reconciliations.

JOB TITLE: Accounting Manager

DEPARTMENT: Finance

REPORTS TO: Finance Director

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

GRADE/SALARY RANGE: Grade 2

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department and providing leadership and direction to accounting staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the general ledger; overseeing payroll, benefits, accounts receivable, and accounts payable; analyzing and reconciling financial accounts; maintaining the chart of accounts; reviewing and validating bank reconciliations; preparing and reconciling monthly and quarterly financial reports and billings to funding agencies; monitoring grant budgets and expenditures for compliance; and collaborating with the Finance Director and Budget Department to support the organization’s financial operations.

The Accounting Manager ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records and reports and assists in maintaining effective internal controls and compliance with applicable accounting standards, funding requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure the accurate and proper accounting classifications of all revenues, expenditures, transactions, and supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile tax (941) reports to the general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Act as liaison with agency personnel regarding payroll and accounting policies and guidelines.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret a variety of accounting and financial data to support accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and properly supported.
  • Conduct special investigations as assigned to complete projects within established deadlines.
  • Update the accounting manual for internal and external use as accounting standards, regulations, policies, and procedures change.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local funding requirements.
  • Compile and interpret funding source regulations and maintain compliance with agency grants.
  • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to accounting and business office staff to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient completion of assigned responsibilities
  • Participate in the annual financial audit, including preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and responses to auditor requests.
  • Prepare grant and program billings, reconcile billings to the general ledger, and prepare necessary journal entries and adjustments.
  • Prepare grant and submit all financial reports, financial statements, grant reports, and billings required by funding sources in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare financial information, reports, analyses, and supporting documentation requested by the Finance Director or the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee.
  • Evaluate existing accounting and financial procedures and recommend changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, internal controls, and compliance.
  • Assume designated Finance Director responsibilities during the Finance Director’s absence, as authorized by the Executive Director and in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Finance Director or Executive Director
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in Accounting, General Ledger, and Finance.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of all accounting function areas.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing, and accounting software.
