Job summary

McKinstry, based in Spokane, WA, seeks an Accounting Lead - Manufacturing to lead manufacturing-driven financial processes and system integrations for rapid growth. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • 8+ years accounting experience with 5+ years in manufacturing or operationally complex environments.
  • Public accounting audit experience preferred, with exposure to internal controls and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and manufacturing accounting incl. inventory and cost accounting.
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP/MRP implementations, system integrations, and finance transformation.

The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking an Accounting Lead - Maufacturing to join our Offsite Manufacturing team in Spokane, WA. This role serves as the Accounting Lead supporting manufacturing-driven transformation for the modular products business, building the financial and operational processes required to support rapid growth, manufacturing complexity, and system integration. It translates end-to-end manufacturing activity into controlled, scalable accounting processes across procure-to-pay, inventory, billings, and cash flow. This role will partner closely with the Controller to execute accounting requirements. Additional responsibilites may include:


Manufacturing Systems & Process Enablement
  • Serve as Finance & Accounting lead for manufacturing and ERP-related process initiatives, ensuring accounting requirements are embedded in system design, configuration and on-going enhancements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes aligned to manufacturing workflows, including:
    • Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and vendor lifecycle
    • Inventory movement, valuation, and cost capture
    • Production/job costing and variance treatment
    • Billings, cash application, and financial module close
  • Ensure transaction flows support accurate reporting, subledger integrity, and close
  • Partner with technology, operations, and business teams to align system configuration with accounting, reporting, and control requirements
Financial Accounting Process Excellence
  • Develop, implement, and optimize accounting processes that support manufacturing and operational activities.
  • Build and enhance core accounting processes
    • Month-end close tied to manufacturing activity
    • Reconciliations across inventory, P2P, accruals, and subledgers
    • Standardization of high-volume and complex transactions
    • Validation of supporting reporting and schedules, including alignment to other financial systems where applicable
  • Identify opportunities to improve process effectiveness, data quality, and internal controls
  • Establish and maintain repeatable, scalable, and audit-ready processes
Operational Execution: Billing, Cash & Transactions
  • Lead execution of key operational finance processes:
    • Billing/invoicing aligned to production, delivery, and contract terms
    • Cash management tied to billing timing, collections, and working capital
    • Transaction validation, data entry oversight, and issue resolution
  • Develop and maintain processes aligned with vendor and customer expectations to improve billing accuracy, reduce disputes, and strengthen cash flow
  • Align operational triggers (production, shipment, milestones) with financial outcomes
Data Integrity, Controls & Process Optimization
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial and operational data across integrated systems
  • Design, implement, and enhance internal controls across procurement, inventory, billing, and cash management and other key financial processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve system utilization, streamline workflows and reduce manual effort through process and system improvements and automation
  • Support continued enhancements, system integrations and process optimization
Cross-Functional Integration & Execution
  • Operate across manufacturing, accounting, ERP, business technology, and corporate F&A teams
  • Facilitate clarity on ownership, handoffs, and process gaps
  • Ensure consistent execution across interdependent workflows
  • Drive progress independently and elevate when needed
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; CPA required; active licensure not required.
  • 8+ years of accounting experience with 5 years in manufacturing, industrial, or operationally complex environments.
  • Public accounting audit experience preferred, with exposure to internal controls, financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and manufacturing accounting, including inventory accounting, cost accounting, inventory valuation, manufacturing cost flows, P2P processes, subledger reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Experience partnering with manufacturing operations, supply chain, procurement, warehouse, and production leaders to ensure financial results accurately reflect operational activity.
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP/MRP systems such as Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, or similar platforms, including inventory accounting, production accounting, costing, inventory valuation, cycle counts, and operational reporting.
  • Experience supporting ERP/MRP implementations, system integrations, and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing data, inventory transactions, bills of material (BOMs), routings, production orders, and inventory controls.
  • Ability to design and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting aligned with manufacturing operations and system architecture.
  • Experience ensuring data integrity and reconciliation across manufacturing, operational, and financial systems.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience operating in high-growth, transformation, acquisition integration, or ERP modernization environments.
Travel
  • Based in Spokane, WA.
  • Travel to Seattle and manufacturing facilities as needed.

The pay range for this position is $99,270 - $152,910 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
