The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is offering an Accounting Intern within the Finance Division. This internship focuses on implementing standardized asset management policy across INDOT locations, with emphasis on inventory processes and procedures.

The position is primarily at INDOT's Central Office, with potential travel to district locations. The hourly rate starts at $16.24 for undergraduates and $17.24 for graduates.

Qualifications

  • Working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Relevant work experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT.
  • Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process.
  • Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to operate computer tools.
  • Good research and writing skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts.
  • Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze all existing asset management policy and procedure relating to inventory.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and areas of improvement in written policy.
  • Research inventory methods currently in use at each district.
  • Identify how these do/do not align with current policy or procedure.
  • Analyze financial impact caused by lost or missing assets.
  • Identify ways inventory management procedures could reduce this.
  • Develop an innovative plan based on findings for improving INDOT inventory management procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
