Job summary

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (Councilor) seeks motivated Accounting Interns to join our Bethesda, Maryland team. This internship offers hands-on experience across Tax, Audit, Accounting, and Operations in a public accounting environment.

We welcome senior accounting students or recent graduates who aim to pursue CPA licensure and gain exposure to real-world financial processes, reporting, and advisory activities within a collaborative setting.

Qualifications

• We are looking for senior-level accounting students or a recent graduate eager to learn in a professional services environment.
• Strong interest in pursuing an accounting career and CPA licensure; plan to complete remaining credits for CPA eligibility.
• Completed Intermediate Accounting coursework and solid understanding of accounting principles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work both independently and in teams, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist with month-end financial reporting processes.
• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with audit engagements and related documentation.
• Support tax return and tax form preparation.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Track and reconcile inventory records.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and internal analyses.
• Data entry and maintenance of financial records.
• Complete assigned projects accurately and within deadlines.

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (Councilor) is seeking motivated and ambitious Accounting Interns to join our team in Bethesda, Maryland. This is an exceptional opportunity for students and recent graduates who are interested in building a career in accounting.

Requirements

We are looking for senior-level accounting students or a recent graduates who are eager to learn and contribute in a professional services environment.

• A strong interest in pursuing a career in accounting and obtaining CPA licensure
• At least 120 completed credit hours upon graduation and a plan to earn the remaining credits required for CPA eligibility
• Successful completion of Intermediate Accounting coursework (or equivalent) and a strong understanding of accounting principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Demonstrated initiative in learning and problem solving
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• A positive attitude and commitment to producing quality work

Our internship program is designed to provide broad exposure to the public accounting profession. Interns work alongside professionals in our Tax, Audit, Accounting, and Operations teams, gaining valuable experience across multiple practice areas.

Responsibilities may include:
