Job summary

CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc. invites students to join its Early Talent Program within the summer internship as an Accounting / Finance Intern. You will work on projects that create value for internal and external stakeholders and apply practical classroom concepts.

Expect hands-on experience in transportation accounting topics, AR/AP, month-end closing, and accounting initiatives while learning from senior leaders and engaging with various business entities across CRST.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a business-related 4-year bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
• Junior-level college student with a major in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics or similar.
• Minimum 2.5 or above GPA.
• Relevant work experience / internships / related activities (tutor, business fraternity, etc.) preferred but not required.
• Strong technical acumen and desire for a career in Accounting / Finance.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Able to develop alternative solutions and work well in individual and group problem solving situations.
• Self-starter with high personal motivation and desire to take initiative and ownership.
• Exhibit a strong work ethic and loyalty.
• Has strong aspirations for future success in business or management.
• Ability to multi-task and problem-solve effectively.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Basic oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Transportation-Specific Accounting Concepts - Gain hands-on experience with transportation-specific accounting topics.
• Accounts Receivable and Payable - Assist with transactional accounting for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Month-End Closing Support - Contribute to the month-end closing process and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Accounting Projects - Support various enterprise-wide accounting initiatives and projects.
• Account/P&L Structure - Develop a basic understanding of account structures and profit and loss reporting.
• Spreadsheet Server - Gain experience using the Spreadsheet Server for financial analysis and reporting.
• Support McLeod (CRST ERP) - Assist with McLeod (CRST ERP), including system deployment and general operations.
• Participate in Meetings - Actively participate in status meetings and stand-up sessions.
• Senior Leadership Exposure - Learn from our Senior Leaders from day 1 and present your project and experience to them at the end of the summer.
• Accountability & Reliability - Maintain regular and reliable attendance while performing other duties as assigned to support team and business needs

Here is what you can expect

• Transportation-Specific Accounting Concepts - Gain hands-on experience with transportation-specific accounting topics, including ASC 842 lease implementation, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and more
• Accounts Receivable and Payable - Assist with transactional accounting for accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Month-End Closing Support - Contribute to the month-end closing process and ensure accurate financial reporting
• Accounting Projects - Support various enterprise-wide accounting initiatives and projects

Here Is Some Other Helpful Information

• Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate courses at least the fall semester following the summer internship.
• Interns who successfully complete the Early Talent Program are considered for full-time positions within CRST upon graduation with additional benefits.
• These internships will be based at our offices in Cedar Rapids, IA.
