Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking an Accounting Director, GBS, in Houston to lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensure accurate financial reporting, and drive internal control maturity.

You will mentor Accounting Managers and the Shared Services team, partner with FP&A and auditors, and implement finance transformation initiatives within ENGIE Group governance, complying with ICFR and SOX.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA accreditation required.
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Ensure accuracy of general ledger activity including accruals, revenue recognition, inventory, intercompany, fixed assets, and journal entries.
  • Review financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) with FP&A and explain variances and risks.
  • Prepare, review, and submit financial reporting packages and KPI reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with ENGIE Group policies, ICFR, SOX, and local regulations.
  • Design and improve internal controls over financial reporting and remediation of gaps.
  • Oversee balance sheet governance including reconciliations and aging reviews.
  • Act as finance contact for internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Promote ethics, integrity, and compliance across GBS Accounting teams.

What You Can Expect

As an Accounting Director, GBS, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for ENGIE North America entities within scope. This role balances operational excellence, people leadership, and governance while driving process standardization, internal control maturity, and finance transformation initiatives aligned with ENGIE Group and GBS strategy. The role requires partnership with business leaders and the ability to lead teams through change in a dynamic, regulated, and fast‑evolving energy environment. You will work closely with stakeholders to drive performance and impact results. You will manage the period‑end close process, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and coordinate tasks performed by the Accounting Shared Services Team (GBS). You will be responsible for delivering financial results for your business unit. With Accounting Managers as direct reports and additional indirect reports, you will support the accounting teams with expertise in financial reporting, technical accounting, transactional tax, process controls, and audit coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring adherence to established close calendars and GBS standards
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger activity, including accruals, revenue recognition, inventory, intercompany, fixed assets, cash, and manual journal entries
  • Review and analyze financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in collaboration with FP&A, identifying and explaining variances, trends, and risks
  • Direct the preparation, review, and submission of financial reporting packages, including statutory, management, off‑balance‑sheet, and KPI reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with ENGIE Group accounting policies, internal control frameworks (ICFR), SOX requirements, and local statutory regulations
  • Design, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation, testing support, and remediation of control gaps
  • Oversee balance sheet governance, including reconciliations, aging reviews, and certification processes
  • Act as a key finance contact for internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reviews, ensuring timely and high‑quality responses
  • Promote a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance across GBS Accounting teams
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • A current CPA accreditation
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
Additional Details
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; a minimum of 3 days working in the office, and 2 days working from home weekly
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation

Salary Range: $135,000 – $206,885 USD annually. This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
