The Accounting Coordinator supports the financial operations of the East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) by performing accounting, reconciliation, recordkeeping, and administrative functions necessary to maintain accurate and timely financial information. This position works closely with the Finance team and other departments to ensure financial transactions are properly documented, coded, processed, and maintained in accordance with ETFB policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), grant requirements, and applicable regulations. The Accounting Coordinator position requires significant independent judgment and discretion in the analysis and resolution of accounting problems.The Accounting Coordinator must demonstrate a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail. Because ETFB receives funding from multiple sources, including grants and donor-supported programs, the position plays an important role in maintaining appropriate documentation and supporting financial accountability and audit readiness.Position Summary:Essential Job Responsibilities:Assist with day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and financial recordkeeping.Review invoices, purchase documentation, expense reports, and other financial transactions for completeness, accuracy, proper authorization, and appropriate coding.Process accounts payable transactions and assist with maintaining accurate vendor records.Record deposits, payments, journal entries, and other financial transactions as assigned.Perform monthly account and bank reconciliations and research discrepancies in a timely manner.Assist with grant-related accounting, including tracking expenditures and maintaining supporting documentation.Assist with preparation and review of financial schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.Maintain organized financial records in accordance with ETFB's document-retention requirements.Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.Make recommendations concerning accounting problems.Analyze financial information and resolve accounting problems.Support preparation for the annual financial audit and other monitoring or compliance reviews by gathering requested documentation and responding to information requests.Coordinate with departments to obtain missing invoices, receipts, approvals, coding information, and other required documentation.Assist with maintaining internal controls and identifying discrepancies or unusual transactions requiring further review.Protect confidential financial, employee, donor, vendor, and organizational information.Maintain accurate documentation for restricted funds and other designated financial resources, as assigned.Assist Finance leadership with special projects, reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis as needed.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, auditors, and other stakeholders.Follow ETFB policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, grant, and regulatory requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.Applicant Qualifications:Associate degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant accounting experience.Previous experience of performing accounting, bookkeeping, financial reconciliation, or similar responsibilities.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computerized financial systems.Preferred:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.Two or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience.Experience working in a nonprofit organization.Experience with grant-funded programs, restricted funding, or audit preparation.Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles and internal controls.Key Competencies:Accuracy and attention to detailAccountabilityIntegrityConfidentialityAnalytical thinkingOrganizationCommunicationTeamworkProblem-solvingTime managementCollaboration & InfluenceDecision-Making & Problem-SolvingIntegrity & Confidentiality
