Job summary

A leading consulting and financial services firm is seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee all accounting operations and lead audits. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting, a Bachelor's degree, CPA, and the ability to implement effective financial systems. Founding Accounting Controller - Hybrid - New York City or San Francisco - Full Time

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and compliance.
• Lead the planning, execution, and completion of annual external financial audits; manage relationships with auditors and resolve issues proactively.
• Own preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
• Implement and improve accounting systems, internal controls, and processes to support scale and efficiency; identify opportunities for automation.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; partner with Legal, HR, and Operations to ensure smooth financial workflows.

Qualifications

Must Haves

• Currently working as a Controller or Assistant Controller
• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
• CPA
• Big 4 or Mid‑Tier Accounting audit experience
• 5+ years of experience in Accounting.
• Experience at a B2B SaaS company.
• Strong technical accounting skills with deep GAAP knowledge.
• Experience scaling accounting functions in a high‑growth startup.

Nice to Have

• Experience at an AI company.
• Embracing a technology‑first approach to scale, particularly deploying AI and automation tools to modernize finance processes.
