The financial leader is responsible for all accounting-related activities, reporting to the Director of Accounting. Position requires a broad understanding of all day-to-day financial transactions across multiple business units. This position will work as part of a small team that handles all aspects of financial matters and must maintain flexibility based on company needs.
General Responsibilities
- Support all aspects of accounting (General Ledger, Financial Statements, Cash, Receivables, Inventory, Payables, Payroll).
- Manage Journal entries and reconcile accounts for the month and year-end closings.
- Review daily bank reconciliations.
- Participate in changes and improvements to the automated financial and management information systems of the company.
- Prepare financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies.
- Work with the management team to provide support for various projects and business goals.
- Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to provide feedback on overall business operations.
- Implement short and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting department staff.
- Comply with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
Specific Duties
- Review journal entries and update the general ledger daily.
- Ongoing review of product costing and manufacturing variances.
- On a monthly basis, lead the month-end close processes to include, but not limited to, reconciling balance sheet accounts and intercompany invoicing accounts.
- On a monthly basis, generate financial statements for all entries.
- Create financial charts/graphs and reports on an as-needed basis.
- Participate in the annual physical inventory by utilizing control and cut-off procedures to ensure accurate book-to-physical comparisons.
- Lead external audit activities.
- Prepare and submit required property tax returns and related abatement forms annually.
- Other duties as required.
Experience and Education requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller or Senior Accounting role, with a proven track record of success.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and best practices in financial reporting.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to adapt to new financial systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a proactive approach to process improvement.
