About Us

JLGOV is a small government contractor supporting federal customers. We are seeking a senior-level government contracts accountant, on an as-needed basis, to manage our QuickBooks operations and keep our accounting system audit-ready. We understand there may be some ramp-up time required.

Company: JLGOV
Location: Hampton Roads, VA
Type: As-needed, independent contractor (approx. 26-30 transactions per month)
Compensation: To be negotiated

What You’ll Do
  • Manage QuickBooks accounting, including about 26-30 transactions per month, bank and credit card reconciliations, and monthly close
  • Maintain a chart of accounts that separates direct, indirect (fringe, overhead, G&A), and unallowable costs per FAR Part 31
  • Calculate and maintain the company wrap rate and indirect rates, and prepare monthly financial reports for the CEO
  • Maintain an accounting system, documentation, and audit trails that meet DCAA requirements, including timekeeping reconciliation and incurred cost submission support
  • Prepare and submit quarterly tax payments (estimated income and payroll taxes) on schedule, with CEO approval
  • Submit/Manage Payroll
  • Support invoicing, A/R, and A/P as needed
  • Serve as the point of contact for government audits and pre-award accounting system reviews, with availability on short notice
Schedule

Work is as needed, with a regular monthly close, quarterly tax deadlines, and added support as audit and business needs arise. Prompt responses and reliable deadlines are essential. Hours are billed as used; no minimum guaranteed.

Required Qualifications
  • Hampton Roads-area resident, able to meet locally when needed
  • U.S. citizen, as required by the nature of our federal contract work
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in government contracting, with a track record of maintaining a DCAA-compliant accounting system
  • Expert-level QuickBooks skills (Desktop or Online), including chart of accounts design, classes/job costing, custom reports, and period close
  • Working knowledge of DCAA compliance and FAR Part 31: cost allowability, direct/indirect segregation, and accounting system adequacy
  • Experience calculating and managing wrap and indirect rates
  • Experience preparing and paying quarterly federal and state taxes
  • Verifiable references from current or former government contractor clients
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and discretion with sensitive financial information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in accounting or finance a plus (+)
  • Experience supporting incurred cost submissions or DCAA/DCMA audits
  • Experience with cost-type, T&M, and FFP contract accounting
  • QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
  • Small business experience (<20 employees)

JLGOV is an equal opportunity employer. Citizenship requirements are based on the nature of our federal contract work.
