Job summary

Navy Region Naval District Washington Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) is seeking an accounting specialist to maintain accounting and budget records and perform a full range of accounting duties in the NDW Regional Finance Office.

The successful candidate will reconcile ledgers, verify invoices, prepare monthly and annual reports, and collaborate with multiple departments to resolve discrepancies, ensuring accurate financial information for Navy programs.

Qualifications

• Four years of general accounting experience above high school or one year of specialized accounting experience.
• Knowledge of accepted accounting principles and Navy practices.
• Ability to operate automated accounting systems and verify data.
• Knowledge of fund accounting methods and closing procedures.
• Ability to analyze accounts and prepare financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile budget and accounting records using double-entry principles.
• Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers and verify documents for validity and accuracy.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Verify purchase orders and invoices prior to payment.
• Verify transfer summaries, payroll summaries, and journal vouchers.
• Extend and summarize inventories.
• Maintain correspondence files related to financial records.
• Assist higher fiscal staff in researching discrepancies.
• Initiate correspondence to resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare month-end schedules and aged accounts.
• Coordinate with departments to reconcile documentation discrepancies.
• Review computer printouts and reconcile with journals and supporting documents.
