Job summary

The California State Auditor is seeking an Accounting Administrator I (Specialist) to join the Fiscal and Business Services team. This 12-month limited-term role requires applying GAAP knowledge and FiCal expertise to manage payments, month-end closes, and reporting with accuracy and timeliness.

The position supports the office’s operation needs, offers hybrid telework within California, and demands strong analytical and communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to handle multiple

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize information clearly.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, budgetary processes, and financial reporting requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple fiscal projects with competing deadlines, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience using research and information-gathering techniques; statistics basics.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve purchase orders and vouchers; reconcile multi-year contract payments; respond to inquiries.
• Process vendor payments to ensure timely payment.
• Prepare and submit reports to the State Controller’s Office including 1099 and non-resident tax withholding.
• Perform month-end closing and resolve outstanding items.
• Prepare monthly fund reconciliations and year-end accruals and journals.
