Job summary

State of California, Employment Development Department (EDD) in Rancho Cordova, CA, seeks an Accountant Trainee to support Claims Processing and Benefit Payment Control activities, including fraud prevention and overpayment handling. Under the close supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee performs entry level professional program accounting work related to the Claims Processing and Benefit Payment Control activities, which include fraud prevention and detection, establishment of overpayments, employer and claimant assistance, and maintenance of employer and claimant accounts, to ensure the integrity of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund.

The incumbent makes routine monetary eligibility determinations and adjustments, as they relate to the various Claims Processing and Benefit Payment control workload processes. The incumbent utilizes a variety of databases and analyzes information obtained from a variety of Federal, State, and Departmental sources to determine the appropriate action, as it relates to the UI and Disability Insurance (DI) programs.

The incumbent needs to be flexible and adaptable to frequent workload changes based on organizational workload priorities.

This position is located in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Statement of Qualifications Requirements

AStatement of Qualifications (SOQ) is Required. and must be submitted with the STD 678. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. 1. Describe how your education, accounting experience, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, prepare you to perform the duties of an Accountant Trainee. Include examples of reviewing work for accuracy and managing multiple deadlines.
