Job summary

The Office of the Iowa Secretary of State is seeking an Accountant to provide accounting services across the office, delivering accurate financial reports and statements. This in-office role requires adherence to state accounting standards and collaboration with leadership and auditors.

Eligible candidates will have a degree in accounting/finance, and several years of accounting experience. Benefits include health/dental, retirement, and no weekends, with a focus on accuracy and internal control.

Qualifications

• Degree in accounting, business, or finance.
• Four years of accounting, auditing, budgeting, or fiscal work.
• Combination of education and full-time experience as described.
• CPA certificate.
• Experience in the state executive branch with IPERS-related experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining and preparing all documentation relating to accounts receivable for SOS charge accounts, including statement preparation and monthly reports, verifying checks, and processing payments.
• Prepares business financials, including balancing accounting records and general ledger records for monthly agency receipts and expenditures.
• Analyzes and corrects agency financial data, while maintaining documentation for requests from agency leadership and the Iowa State Auditor’s Office.
• Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and various other accounting activities; prepares and presents operating budget as needed.
• Assists with facility maintenance and supply orders, including processing invoices and submitting charge approval expenses.
