A CPA or progress toward certification is preferred, with 4–6 years of nonprofit accounting experience and strong Excel/QuickBooks Online proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close across affiliated entities and ensure accurate journal entries.
  • Reconcile data across Payroll, Advancement, and Sprout schools monthly.
  • Process intercompany transfers and maintain cross-entity records.
  • Track Capital Campaign activity, pledges, cash position, and reserves.
  • Develop and maintain month-end dashboards for leadership insights.
  • Support audits and grant reporting with documentation and compliance.

Job description

The Senior Accountant II is a detail-oriented and strategic accounting professional responsible for supporting the organization’s financial operations and providing accurate and timely financial information to leadership. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, this role will own the month-end close process, lead multi-system reconciliations, and develop financial dashboards and analytics that support informed decision-making.

The Senior Accountant II is a dynamic role in which priorities and responsibilities may vary from day to day. The ideal candidate brings equal measures of precision and strategic thinking, maintaining a high level of accuracy while understanding how individual transactions and processes connect to broader organizational goals. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, accountability, and the ability to see projects through from initiation to completion.

  • Own the month-end close , managing bank and credit card reconciliations and reviewing needed journal entries to keep the books clean and accurate every month across affiliated entities.
  • Reconcile across data sources on a monthly basis keeping records in sync across systems (Payroll, Advancement, and our Sprout schools).
  • Process intercompany transfers for affiliated entities in line with organizational policy, keeping financial records accurate across our related organizations.
  • Track financial activity for the Capital Campaign , including pledges, cash position, and contingency reserves.
  • Build and maintain month-end financial dashboards that give leadership a clear, accurate picture of where the organization stands.
  • Support internal and external audits , pulling documentation and answering auditor questions as they come up for grant and financial statement audits.
  • Assist in aspects of grant reporting from applications and amendments through closeout, keeping our funders informed and our compliance tight.
  • Assist with annual budget and forecasting development , helping translate program and organizational priorities into the numbers.
  • Review general accounts receivable and payable balances to catch issues early, keep collections on track, and ensure accurate coding and aging.
  • Mentor and coach junior finance team members , sharing feedback and know-how as our team grows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with nonprofit experience highly desirable.
  • Strong command of month-end close, reconciliations, and general ledger management. Highly proficient in Excel and comfortable working in QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with an eye for detail and a knack for problem-solving.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities, working independently, and asking the right questions at the right time.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Obtains or is working towards a CPA certification.
  • Knowledge of grant compliance requirements (e.g., 2 CFR 200) and hands‑on experience with grant reporting, invoicing, and audit support preferred but not required.
