Job summary

Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking an Assistant Section Chief (Accountant Lead Specialized) in Baltimore to oversee fiscal operations for SHA’s Capital Construction Program. The role includes supervising staff, managing project numbers, and producing monthly financial reports to support budgeting and accountability.

The ASC will work within SHA's Office of Finance, contributing to cost, systems, and federal fund accounting, with emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting with three (3) credit hours in auditing.
• Four (4) years of experience examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports with two (2) years performing advanced duties in cost, systems, federal fund, or bond and loan accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with third‑party billing, AR aging, and fixed asset/inventory management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising personnel and activities in the Program Coordination Section.
• Support fiscal oversight of SHA’s $1 Billion Capital Construction Program.
• Manage SHA Project Numbers, Capital Forecast System, and eF42F30 system.
• Prepare monthly financial reports and other required reporting.
