Job summary

The County of Monterey Health Department is seeking an Accountant II to perform grant invoicing, budget preparation, amendments, and audits; assist in the division’s annual budget and forecasting; and approve documents for accounts payable and receivable across multiple funds.

The role requires strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work with multiple financial systems and reporting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• Two years of experience performing full accounting duties at CPA or private firm, or two years at Accountant I level for the County.

Responsibilities

• Calculates, posts, and adjusts journal entries; updates accounts; audits for errors and reconciles with systems.
• Prepares, reviews, and monitors grants, contracts, claims, and other financial agreements; prepares financial statements and cash flow analyses.
• Maintains compliance with laws, codes, and GAAP; prepares and analyzes budgets; monitors cash flow for multiple funds.
