Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking an experienced Accountant II (Temporary, 12-month) to support critical accounting operations during a major finance system transformation. The role will work across general ledger reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy during the implementation.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP and applying principles to complex transactions, reconciliations and issue resolution.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for researching, reconciling, and resolving discrepancies.
• Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets, financial systems, reporting tools and data analysis.
• Ability to prepare and interpret financial reports, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Ability to interpret and apply accounting policies, regulations and internal controls.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and balance implementation projects with operations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle or PeopleSoft.
• Public/governmental or higher-education accounting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close processes and related reporting.
• Perform complex reconciliations and transaction analyses to resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with transformation-related cleanup and system implementation tasks.
• Provide backup support to maintain continuity of financial operations during transition.
