Job summary

University of Mary seeks an Accountant I or II to support the daily operations of the Business Office in Bismarck, ND. The role contributes to financial accuracy and compliance while upholding the university’s Benedictine mission.

Responsibilities include general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, vendor management, and assisting with audits and tax returns. A bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least two years of experience are preferred; the position is a full-time on-site role.

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Journal Entries.
  • Maintains the fixed assets database.
  • Responsible for vendor management.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Oversees insurance and risk management functions.
  • Assists with annual audit and Form 990 tax return.
  • Coordinates 1099 process and Unclaimed Property filings.
  • Backup to Accounting Manager and related duties.

Job description

The University of Mary is seeking an Accountant I or II, depending on experience. This position exists to support daily operations of the Business Office. Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:
  • General Ledger Journal Entries
  • Maintains the fixed assets database
  • Responsible for vendor management
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations
  • Oversees insurance and risk management functions
  • Assists with preparation of the annual audit and 990 tax return
  • Coordinates 1099 process
  • Coordinates Unclaimed Property Filings
  • Backup to Accounting ManagerPerforms other related duties as requested and assigned
Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Required: A minimum of two years of previous accounting or finance experience
  • Upholds andsupports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities.
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality inthe Office of Financial Affairs and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications, especially Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn and be proficient with in-house software applications, such as Jenzabar and CBORD
  • Attentiveness to detail and an ability to enter data accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to work within a timeframe and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to the Office of Financial Affairs and associated areas of responsibility
  • Ability to represent the Office of Financial Affairs with integrity and a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to use a high degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and individuals
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to set priorities and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility
  • Ability to understand, interpret, explain, and apply rules and policies applicable to areas of responsibility
  • Ability to organize and maintain a filing system and document management databases
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and concise correspondence, records, reports, and other documents
