Job summary

Aegon in the United States is seeking an accounting professional to support basic to intermediate accounting tasks under general supervision. You will compile, consolidate, and analyze financial data, assist in preparing reports, and contribute to the preparation of financial statements and analyses.

The role involves using multiple systems and collaborating with teammates to meet deadlines. Responsibilities include reviewing expense reports, guiding junior staff, and performing reconciliations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent education/experience.
• Up to 2 years of experience, with degree.
• Working knowledge of accounting area preferred (investments, insurance products, premium, tax).

Responsibilities

• Performs professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data.
• Reviews and audits expense reports to ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Guides Accounting Specialists/Associates in problem resolution.
• Handles complex questions and may provide guidance to others in the same skill area.
• Drafts segments of statements and reports including data analysis.
• Ensures accounting transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
• Reconciles, investigates, corrects and adjusts accounting information under deadlines.
• Prepares financial statements and work papers for multiple bases of accounting.
• Explains transactions and reporting to others.
• Uses multiple financial systems to produce various analyses.

Job description

Performs basic accounting functions or responsibilities requiring general supervision. Utilizes general accounting and financial principles and techniques, and assists in obtaining, assembling, evaluating, interpreting, recording and analyzing financial data. Prepares and/or assists in preparation of financial reports and performs or assists in performance of financial analysis as directed.

Responsibilities

• Performs professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data. May include any or all of the following: ledgers and preparation of journal entries; fixed asset or inventory accounting; preparation of trial balance or financial statements.
• Reviews and audits expense reports to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
• Resolves questions and guides Accounting Specialists/Associates in their problem resolution. Looks for and understands what issues should be brought to the attention of a higher authority.
• Handles and resolves complex or unique questions, problems, or assignments, exercising independent judgment and initiative on occasion. May provide guidance to others within the same skill area.
• Drafts segments of statements and reports including assignments involving analysis of data.
• Ensures the accounting transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
• Reconciles, investigates, corrects and adjusts accounting information in accordance with aggressive deadlines.
• Prepares financial statements and/or work papers for multiple accounting bases.
• Explains to others how and why transactions were processed and reported.
• Uses multiple financial systems and/or sophisticated reporting tools to produce a variety of analyses.
• Proactively identifies unique problems, such as reconciliation/posting issues, and seeks help to resolve, if necessary.
• Prepares financial statements and reporting requirements.
• Project work as needed in other multiple bases of accounting and financial reporting.
• Calculates and compiles divisional forecast, budget and plans.
• Conducts budget coordination, division financial consolidation and other division reporting requirements.

Salary and Benefits

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $48,000 - $63,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.
