The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant for the Financial Operations section to work in the Aviation's Finance Division. This is advanced professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of financial records. Work involves performing more complex accounting duties in the Airport's Finance Division. The employee exercises considerable independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through periodic external audits, conferences, and the evaluation of various reports. This position will log, save and maintain finance spreadsheets and reports. In addition, this position will be responsible for reviewing and processing all Finance Sheets received from the Airlines and Business division to properly account for any changes or adjustments in the monthly rents of the tenants.

General Description

Professional accounting work in the classification, analysis and reporting of financial data, and may supervise clerical/technical level accounting support staff.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance; or a Bachelor's degree and coursework that qualifies for the CPA Examination.

Preferences

• Doctorate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or closely related field.
• Masters degree in Business, Finance, Accounting / Public Administration, or closely related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
• Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
• Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO)
• Accredited Airport Executive Certification (AAE) or Airport Certified Employee (ACE)
• 1+ year PeopleSoft
• 3+ year financial accounting and reporting experience
• 1+ years billing and or collections experience
• 1+ years Advance Excel skills (vlookup, pivot, macros)
• 2+Years Experience in Bank Reconciliations

Additional Information

All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check, including fingerprinting and all other information as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. Ability to maintain authorization to drive a County vehicle.

Examples of duties

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

• Prepare monthly sales tax reconciliation & any required amendments
• Dispute Chargebacks
• Prepare monthly revenue accruals
• Journal Entry preparation and submittal for various journal entries.
• Prepare various account reconciliations and any required adjustments, including but not limited to the below:

  • Recon - Customer Refunds & Security Deposit Refunds
  • Recon - Problem Accounts

• Prepare support for overdue validations of customer accounts and account credits.
• Prepare support for customer refunds.
• Ability to prioritize all assigned tasks and ad-hoc duties, and meet given deadlines.
• Conduct research, analyze data, and develop reports on ad-hoc matters assigned by the Financial Operations Manager.
