K-Five Construction Corporation is seeking an experienced accounting professional to assist the Controller with monthly financial statements, year-end audits, and tax filings. The role includes handling payroll taxes, tax reporting, and internal controls within a growing construction company based in Chicagoland.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance from four-year college.
• Three to five years of experience in a tax accounting role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with financial statements and job costing.
• Understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end and year-end close processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Controller by performing various accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly internal financial statements and year-end audited financial statements.
• Process payroll taxes and general tax filings using strong tax knowledge and tax software.
• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns monthly, quarterly, and annually.
• Assist in the year-end annual audit and act as secondary liaison with outside auditors.
• Assist in the preparation of annual prequalification reports for public entities.
• Create miscellaneous accounts receivable invoices and assist in billing related to material plants.

Job Purpose

Assist the Controller by performing various accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly internal financial statements and year-end audited financial statements. In addition to general accounting, process reports for payroll taxes and general tax filings. Utilize strong pass-through tax knowledge and understanding of tax software.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implementation of sound accounting principles to allow for records compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Assist in the development of procedures to maintain a proper level of internal controls.
• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns monthly, quarterly, and annually.
• Prepare and file payroll tax returns.
• Complete yearly W2 reporting and monthly SUTA reporting.
• Preparation of monthly reconciliations for various general ledger accounts, including the formulation of journal entries to be reviewed by the Controller
• Cross training in the day-to-day operations of all sections of the accounting system, including A/R, A/P, Payroll, Billing Management, Job Cost and Trucking A/P and Payroll.
• Monitor accounting records to ensure accurate input by the various areas within accounting.
• Preparation of Forms 1099 at year end.
• Process year-end tax reporting for multiple entities.
• Assist in the year-end annual audit and act as secondary liaison with outside auditors.
• Assist in the preparation of annual prequalification reports for public entities.
• Creation of miscellaneous accounts receivable invoices.
• Assist in billing related to our material asphalt plants
• Resolve inconsistencies in procedures among departments to ensure accurate entry into accounting records.
• Assist in any other projects or assignments per the Controller’s direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance from four-year college or university.
• Three to five years of experience and/or training in a tax accounting role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with financial statements and job costing.
• Experience in preparing and filing corporate and related party tax returns.
• Understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience in the construction industry and/or working with multiple subsidiaries preferred.
