We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and hands-on accounting professional to join our team. This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including accounts payable, journal entries, financial analysis, reconciliations, data review, and special projects.

The ideal candidate has moderate experience with day-to-day accounting and financial analysis, strong attention to detail, and excellent software skills. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares and processes journal entries.
  • Assists in monthly and year end closing.
  • Reconciles and maintains balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports.
  • Assists in preparing analysis of accounts.
  • Assists in administering accounts payable.
  • Monitors and resolves bank issues including fee anomalies and check differences.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares bi-weekly payroll, prepares payroll reports and process payments related to payroll and employee benefits.
  • Assists with preparation and coordination of the audit.
  • Assists with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the budget.
  • Serves as back-up to the Accounting Specialist in preparing bi-weekly payroll, preparing payroll reports and payments and in processing weekly accounts payable.
  • Responds to a wide variety of requests for information from various sources such as City personnel, the public, various organizations and agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Five years of accounting experience preferably in governmental accounting
  • Experience using Incode financial software preferred
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver's license
  • A combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of finance principles and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding finances and taxation.
  • Knowledge of grant preparation and administration.
  • Ability to formulate, implement, and monitor accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and applicable Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, other agencies and co-workers.
  • Skill in identifying and resolving issues, concerns and needs.
  • Skill in problem solving including analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, and consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations in support of goals.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including a computer and associated software including but not limited to Microsoft Office - Excel specifically, timekeeping software, Incode.
