Job summary

MyCHN (My Community Health Network) in the Greater Houston area seeks an Accountant to join our nonprofit FQHC focused on patient-centered care. You will ensure accurate reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and provide timely financial insights to support operations.

Key responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable support, month-end close, and preparing financial reports for management and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records by recording financial transactions in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
• Prepare and post routine and month-end journal entries, including revenue and expense accruals and adjusting entries.
• Perform monthly balance sheet and account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve items promptly.
• Reconcile bank and cash accounts and ensure proper recording of receipts, deposits, and disbursements.
• Provide accounting support for accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including transaction reviews and cash application.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports and analyses for management and stakeholders.
• Review financial data for completeness and proper coding with adequate supporting documentation.
• Maintain ledgers, journals, and schedules in an organized, audit-ready manner.

What You'll Do & Bring

As an Accountant, you'll serve as key financial partner, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting the business with timely, insightful financial information.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate and complete accounting records by recording financial transactions in the general ledger and appropriate subsidiary ledgers.
• Prepare and post routine and month-end journal entries, including revenue and expense accruals, reclassifications, and other adjusting entries.
• Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations, research reconciling items, and resolve discrepancies timely.
• Perform bank and cash account reconciliations and ensure cash receipts, deposits, and disbursements are accurately recorded.
• Provide accounting support for accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including transaction review, payment processing, cash application, and follow-up on outstanding items.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports, schedules, and analyses for management and other stakeholders.
• Review financial data for completeness, accuracy, appropriate coding, and adequate supporting documentation.
• Maintain ledgers, journals, account schedules, and other accounting records in an organized and audit-ready manner.

What You Bring:

• Associate Degree in Accounting, finance, or related field
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (required)
• Any relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in healthcare or nonprofit sectors
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, accounting software (MIP experience preferred), and general ledger systems

Preferred:

• Working knowledge and experience with MIP and Quickbooks
• Experience working with multi-entity accounting structures
