Job summary

MCHC Health Centers is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Ukiah, CA. You will lead monthly close, financial reporting, and general ledger reconciliations for an assigned health center, while supporting audits, budgeting, and grant accounting across multiple centers.

You'll analyze discrepancies, maintain audit-ready workpapers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, timely financial information and regulatory compliance in a nonprofit healthcare

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Accounting or related field, or 5+ years of related experience.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and monthly close.
• Experience with nonprofit or healthcare grant accounting and reporting.
• Proficiency in Excel and audit-ready documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly close, reconciliations, and draft financial statements.
• Support audits and annual budget preparation.
• Prepare Form 990, Welfare forms, and OSHPD reporting.
• Manage grant accounting, tracking expenditures, drawdowns, and reporting.

MCHC is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you’ll take primary responsibility for financial services functions for an assigned health center, including monthly close, financial reporting, and general ledger reconciliations. You’ll also support audits, budgeting, healthcare regulatory reporting, and manage grant accounting and reporting across multiple health centers.

What You’ll Do

Monthly Close & Financial Reporting

• Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations
• Prepare adjusting journal entries and monthly draft financial statements
• Analyze and explain discrepancies between actual and budgeted results
• Prepare and maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial workpapers
• Review workpapers and accounting entries prepared by other staff, as assigned

Audit, Budget & Regulatory Reporting

• Support the annual fiscal audit and assist with annual budget preparation
• Prepare and support required filings and reports, including Form 990, Welfare Forms, Business Property Statement Form 571-L, Medicare Cost Report, Medi-Cal PPS Reconciliation, UDS, and HCAI (OSHPD) reporting
• Maintain supporting schedules, workpapers, and documentation to ensure accurate and timely reporting

Grant Accounting & Reporting

• Manage grant workbooks, track expenditures, and reconcile grant activity across multiple health centers
• Prepare and process grant drawdowns and support annual grant reporting

  Analysis & Team Support

  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support operational and organizational needs
  • Research discrepancies and assist with resolving accounting and reporting issues
  • Collaborate with Finance team members and other departments to support financial reporting
  • Cross-train to provide backup support for accounting functions across CFS clinics as needed

  Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or five years or more of related accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, monthly close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with grant accounting in a nonprofit or healthcare setting, including grant expenditure tracking, reconciliations, drawdowns, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with financial spreadsheets and workbooks.
  • Experience supporting financial audits and maintaining accurate, audit-ready documentation.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with healthcare financial or regulatory reporting, including Medicare Cost Reports, Medi-Cal PPS Reconciliation, UDS, HCAI (OSHPD), Form 990, or similar government or regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience with major accounting applications.
  • Experience working with healthcare practice management systems.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience.
