Job description

Job Summary: The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing routine and adjusting journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, conducting month-end and year-end close activities, and providing support during internal and external audits. The Accountant ensures compliance with grant accounting requirements including budgeting, financial tracking, reporting, and time and effort documentation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Accounting and Budgeting
  • Maintain the general ledger, including preparation and posting of journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing processes, account analysis, and establishment of new general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statistical reports.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements for multiple programs and locations.
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliations, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and debt.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor annual operating, capital, and grant budgets.
  • Provide ongoing budget analysis and variance reporting.
  • Review, interpret, and present financial statements to leadership and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Track fixed assets and prepare depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare and files state sales and use tax returns and other required tax filings.
  • Maintain banking relationships.
Grant Accounting and Regulatory Reporting
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports, including but not limited to HRSA Uniform Data System (UDS), Federal Financial Reports (FFR), and Financial Status Reports (FSR)
Revenue Cycle and Reimbursement
  • Support revenue cycle management, including billing, collections, reimbursement including FQHC PPS reimbursement, and accounts receivable performance.
  • Monitor reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and value-based reimbursement programs.
  • Ensure timely submission of annual Medicare Cost Reports, and Medicaid reconciliation.
Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audits
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor internal accounting controls and financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and federal, state, local, and industry regulations.
  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Implement audit recommendations and corrective action plans.
  • Stay current on healthcare finance regulations, reimbursement policies, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Responds appropriately to emergent situations.
  • Other duties as requested by the CEO.
Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting
  • Five years of accounting experience
  • Experience with grant accounting and reporting
  • Strong technical proficiency
