Job summary

Badger Meter Inc. is seeking an experienced accountant for the Milwaukee location. You will handle complex accounting tasks, post journal entries, maintain ledgers, and prepare analyses and audit work papers.

You will also support SOX compliance and year-end closing activities, contributing to accurate financial reporting. The role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, 3+ years in manufacturing, and strong Excel skills; CPA is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and SOX requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Post all types of journal entries and maintain ledgers.
  • Prepare account analyses and audit work papers.
  • Monitor closing activities to ensure timely, accurate closes per SOPs and SOX.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with procedures and system improvements.

You must have the ability to maintain account ledgers, prepare required reports, account reconciliations and statements for management while also understanding considerable variation, complexity, and diversification of procedure. In addition, you are expected to work in a professional manner under established company and department guidelines.Job Duties:Perform accounting and financial analysis services directly and predominantly relating to the Milwaukee location activity and indirectly for Badger Meter subsidiaries as needed.Be responsible for posting all types of journal entries, performing ledger maintenance, preparing various account analyses, and completing a variety of audit work papers.Have an ongoing awareness of current developments in the accounting profession and applicable government regulations.Assist the Accounting Manager to formulate, implement, modify, and maintain procedures, policies, and systems which ensure the accurate, timely, verifiable, and efficient accumulation, recording, balancing, reconciling, and reporting of financial data within the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for the United States.Provide assistance, as needed, to other Accounting personnel in areas such as accounts payable, fixed assets, sales, tax, invoicing, expense reports, customs and account analysis.Responsible for monitoring closing activities to ensure a timely and accurate financial closing per current Standard Operating Procedures and Section 404 (SOX) requirements.Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required3+ years of related professional experience in a medium-sized manufacturing environment desiredQualifications:Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word requiredAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel requiredCPA (Certified Public Accounting) preferredIntermediate knowledge of ERP systems preferredKnowledge of accounting theory and related procedures together with a high degree of accuracy, aptitude for detail, sound judgment and analytical skills requiredCompetencies:Work Standards: Setting high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self-imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed.Initiating Action: Take prompt action to accomplish work goals; take action to achieve results beyond what is required; be proactive.Communication: Convey information and ideas clearly and concisely to individuals or groups in an engaging manner that helps them understand and retain the message; listen actively to others.Collaboration: Work collaboratively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.Working Conditions:Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.Competitive Total Rewards at Badger Meter:Competitive PayAnnual BonusEligible for Annual Pay IncreasesComprehensive Health, Vision, and Dental Coverage15 days Paid Time Off + 11 Paid HolidaysTwo Ways to Save for Retirement: Badger Meter contributes 25 cents for every dollar you contribute to the plan, up to 7% of your eligible compensation.
