The position works under the direction of the Director of Accounting & Human Resources. The Accountant role involves ensuring compliance with each granting agency's regulations and changes in regulations. The Accountant contributes to the effective and efficient use of public funds while maintaining transparency and accountability. Additionally, the Accountant will assist the Director of Accounting & Human Resources with financial reporting, budgeting, financial planning, audits, and grant management activities.

The Accountant will maintain the billing system, payroll processes, accounts payable functions, and related accounting procedures. This position will work within, maintain, and review these systems and processes to ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting records.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
  • Assist the Director of Accounting & Human Resources in ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions and maintaining up-to-date financial records.
Budgeting and Planning
  • Assist in budget development, monitoring, forecasting, and organizational financial planning.
Invoicing and Accounts Receivable
  • Maintain the billing system and prepare customer invoices.
Accounts Payable
  • Process vendor invoices and payment requests.
Payroll Administration
  • Assist with payroll preparation and processing.
Compliance and Regulation
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, grant requirements, and accounting standards.
External Audit Preparation
  • Assist with audit preparation and supporting documentation.
Grant Management
  • Assist in the management of grants and funding programs.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
  • Provide financial support to departments.
Professional Development
  • Remain current on accounting best practices.

  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, invoicing, payroll, and accounts payable processing.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with AP, AR, invoicing, payroll, accounting software, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Governmental accounting experience.
  • Grant accounting experience.
  • MIP, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar software experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
