Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking a financial professional to supervise Fiscal, Warehouse, and Commissary operations at Miami Correctional Facility. The role ensures adherence to accounting policies, prepares budgets, and analyzes financial statements to support sound decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records and financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses.
  • Assist in budgeting and preparation of periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Advise the controller or supervisor on the status of assigned accounts.
  • Assist in developing general policies for a fiscal program.
  • Assist in agency or program budget requests.
  • Reconcile discrepancies between accounts and notify appropriate department or supervisor of errors.
  • Prepare reports for reconciliation of grant funded accounts.
  • Coordinate with the federal government or other funding sources for assigned accounts.
  • Coordinate computerized accounting system within the assigned area.
  • Control the flow of appropriated funds.
  • Direct the work of junior staff.

About Miami Correctional Facility:

Miami Correctional Facility is a level‑four high‑medium‑security facilitylocatedin Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base propertyand alsoincludes a level‑one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. Miami Correctional Facility offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners. Incarcerated individuals gain hands‑on skills that build employability for re‑entryand the programs help individuals develop strong work habits and meaningful experience.

Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.

Role Overview:

This position is responsible for the supervision of Fiscal, Warehouse, and Commissary operations at an adult correctional facility to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

Eligible non-custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Assist the supervisor in analyzing budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Advise the controller or supervisor on the status of assigned accounts.
  • Assist in the development of general policies for a fiscal program.
  • Assist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.
  • Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts and notifies the appropriate department or supervisor of errors.
  • Prepare reports for reconciliation of grant funded accounts.
  • Analyze and interpret financial statements and reports for accuracy.
  • Serve as liaison between agency and the federal government or other funding source for assigned account.
  • Coordinate computerized accounting system within assigned area.
  • Control the flow of appropriated funds.
  • Direct the work of lower-level accountants and account clerks assisting in complex or unusual situations.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
