The Opportunity
The Accounting Associate will be an integral member of the Finance team, supporting the accounting, financial reporting, and control activities for multiple U.S. legal entities. The role will report to a Financial Controller and work closely with stakeholders across Finance and the broader organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal entity controllership and financial accounting support for U.S. broker-dealer, security-based swap dealer, and other specialized legal entities under U.S. GAAP.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting, Legal, Tax, Technical Accounting, Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, Product Control, Operations, FP&A, and Cash Management to ensure accurate and timely accounting.
- Provide accounting and financial advisory support for new transactions, business initiatives, and changes to legal entity structures.
- Manage month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries related to investments, financing activities, expense accruals, intercompany transactions, cash activity, and income taxes.
- Support quarterly waterfall calculations, capital transactions, wire payments, and related activities.
- Prepare and review quarterly broker-dealer financial statements and supporting schedules for external reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Perform operational and administrative activities, including wire payments, intercompany settlements, invoice processing, and related transactions.
- Perform monthly balance sheet substantiation and evaluate the adequacy of expense accruals, resolving discrepancies and escalating significant matters to management.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial analysis, including commentary on balance sheet and P&L variances.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, increase efficiency, and enhance systems and reporting.
- Collaborate with IT and other stakeholders on accounting system enhancements and process improvements.
- Support internal and external audit requests and inquiries.
- Participate in ad hoc projects and special initiatives supporting Finance leadership and business stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- 1.5+ years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience within a financial services organization.
- Big Four public accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and/or HFM preferred.
- Advanced Excel and analytical capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal, and business-writing skills.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance and other business functions.
