Job summary

The Coteau Properties Company invites applications for an accounting-focused role at the Freedom Mine. The successful candidate will support annual and long-range budgeting, monthly cost reporting, and cost analyses, while backing up daily accounting duties including accounts payable and journal entries.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in accounting or business (or 4 years of relevant experience) and CMA/CPA is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field required (or four years of accounting experience in lieu of degree).
• CMA or CPA certification preferred but not required if experience supports.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy in financial data.

Responsibilities

• Provide support with the annual operating and long-range budget projections.

Job Description

Employee Type: RegularThe successful candidate will be responsible for performing duties in the areas of financial and cost accounting, such as budgeting and reporting functions at the Freedom Mine.

Essential Duties

• Provide support with the annual operating and long-range budget projections
• Aid in the completion and distribution of the monthly Mine Cost Report
• Assist with various cost analysis projects and comparison reports
• Provide backup for daily financial/cost accounting duties as needed, including AP functions, time and data entry and other database maintenance
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and cost reports on a timely and accurate basis
• Preparation and input of journal entries into the general accounting system
• Provide support regarding the analysis of general ledger account activity and supply requested information
• Assist in the preparation of schedules for financial audits, both internal and external
• Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal regulations (including but not limited to accounting, employment and environmental regulations)

Other Duties

• Assist with statistical research and provide information and support for other departments and minepersonnel
• Perform other duties as directed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough understanding of accounting principles and systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn advanced Microsoft Excel functions to include power query and power pivot
• Knowledge of business intelligence applications and practices, such as Power BI, is a plus
• Must possess the ability to handle confidential information
• Must be accurate and detail oriented
• Must possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced work environment

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field is required; or, four years of experience as an accountant may be considered in lieu of degree
• CMA or CPA certification is preferred

NOTE: This position requires ability to work primarily indoors and on-site at the Freedom Mine. Employees must be able to safely operate company vehicles/equipment as required. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while in active work areas.
