Job description

Ready to use your accounting expertise to support a mission that matters? Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Accountant. We need an experienced financial professional to support our Finance department with accurate data collection, fiscal reporting, and month-end close processes. By monitoring our financial resources, you will ensure our organization is working efficiently to deliver affordable, high-quality reproductive healthcare to the communities we serve.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our financial health and integrity. You won't just be entering data - you will be a vital interdepartmental liaison, supporting grant administration, processing payroll, and assisting with the implementation of new accounting systems and procedures.

  • Record and reconcile: Accurately record patient revenue, process bi-weekly payroll, and post weekly A/P invoices through platforms like Bill.com, while reconciling bank accounts and managing sub-ledgers.
  • Collaborate across departments: Serve as a key Finance resource for our grant administration and Development teams, preparing monthly grant releases, invoicing for clinical and educational programs, and reconciling donation revenue.
  • Drive month-end close: Prepare monthly journal entries, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and assist the Director of Accounting in ensuring all general ledger data is posted timely and accurately.
  • Deliver financial insights: Prepare internal reports for department heads to support budgeting and forecasting, recommend strategies to reduce costs, and assist with external reporting for audits and the Title X program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Required: Experience in non-profit and/or healthcare accounting, plus strong knowledge of grant accounting and temporarily restricted net assets.
  • Advanced computer skills, ideally with experience using financial accounting software (MIP and Sage Intacct preferred).
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to effectively function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and AD&D insurance.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Holidays.
  • Future Focus: 401(k) Retirement Plan and Flexible Spending Account.
