CapRadio is a mission-driven public media organization that exists to create more informed, involved and educated communities. We are the only nonprofit broadcaster in the region that operates a 20-person local newsroom and develops locally produced news, classical music and jazz shows. We connect with communities through radio broadcasting, live streaming, newsletters, on-demand audio, live experiences and more.

CapRadio is recognized for our fact-based, nonpartisan news coverage, state politics and government accountability reporting that is aired daily by NPR stations throughout California, hyperlocal community-engaged journalism and locally hosted classical music and jazz programs. Each week, nearly 500,000 people in the region choose CapRadio as a valued source of news, storytelling, music and events.

With nearly all of our funding coming from individual donations, businesses and nonprofits, CapRadio’s Sponsorship team plays a critical role in sustaining our public service mission by connecting organizations with our highly-engaged and supportive audiences. Who We’re Looking For

The Account Manager, Sponsorship is a corporate development position that manages a portfolio of existing business accounts while actively prospecting for new business to expand the portfolio. The role is responsible for maintaining, renewing, and expanding existing business sponsorship for the station and focusing on new client acquisition for annual packages at a $20,000 level and above.

We’re looking for candidates who have a proven track record in achieving sales goals, particularly in media and broadcast environments; actively engage with clients and prospects to make introductions, presentations, and close business; can understand and analyze client needs to effectively align CapRadio sponsorship solutions; are persuasive communicators with strong verbal and written skills; and, can reflect CapRadio’s values and standards to deliver the quality and excellence that our sponsors expect.

Position Responsibilities

  • Obtain orders for the use of time on the radio and solicit for advertisements across CapRadio.
  • Develop prospecting lists and generate new business through cold calling, external engagement and networking, LinkedIn marketing, and inbound leads to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Actively engage with current and lapsed sponsors and new business prospects to set up off-site and on-site introductions, meetings, and presentations to build relationships and close business.
  • Understand and analyze client needs, working with Sponsorship support staff, as well as Marketing and Audience Insights, to develop compelling, solutions-based presentations and proposals that result in client success and retention.
  • Engage with existing clients and offer high-quality customer service to strengthen relationships, expand existing sponsorship packages, and introduce new product sponsorship opportunities that are aligned with client needs. Work with the Director of Sponsorship to analyze account billing and monthly sales targets, update sales projections, prioritize new business opportunities, and achieve sales goals.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop on-air scripts that align with client marketing goals and adhere to FCC guidelines.
