Job description

An independent B2B technology communications agency working across the US and UK is seeking an Account Director to lead a portfolio of retained client relationships. The agency has grown threefold over the past eighteen months and is entering its next phase of scale, with a deliberately flat structure that keeps senior people close to the clients and the work. It partners with native AI start-ups and category leaders across cybersecurity and enterprise technology, from Series A and B businesses through to unicorns, on earned media, analyst relations, influencer marketing and frequent funding announcements. The founder is predominantly based in London, with a small, fully remote team in the US supporting a growing roster of accounts. This is a genuine leadership opportunity for someone who wants to run accounts end to end, working closely with the founder on strategy and new business while a small specialist team executes underneath them, with a path to step into a broader leadership role as the agency continues to scale.

Role

• Run a portfolio of retained accounts, working directly with founders, CEOs and CMOs on strategy, positioning and delivery
• Manage and direct a small specialist team, including an account manager and account coordinator, setting the standard for strategy, storytelling, writing and execution
• Lead earned media, analyst relations and influencer marketing programmes, with particular strength across US tech, cybersecurity and business media
• Own funding announcements and other major client moments, from launches to category positioning
• Support new business calls and help win new client relationships, with reward attached but no formal sales quota
• Provide candid senior counsel, challenging clients where needed rather than simply executing instructions
• Help shape and grow the agency's emerging GEO offering as it is introduced across the client portfolio
• Report directly to the founder, with growing autonomy over strategic and commercial decisions as the relationship develops
• Take on broader account leadership responsibility over time, with a realistic path toward a more senior leadership role within the business

Requirements

• Experience in PR or strategic communications, with meaningful agency-side experience running accounts
• Genuine fluency in B2B technology, ideally spanning AI, cybersecurity or enterprise software
• Established media relationships in the US, particularly across technology, cybersecurity and business press
• A track record of owning senior client relationships and being trusted by founders, CEOs and CMOs
• Confidence to hold a business conversation with a founder, not simply deliver a communications update
• Experience supporting or leading new business conversations and helping convert them into client relationships
• Strong editorial judgement and excellent writing, with the ability to turn complex technology into a clear, compelling argument
• Comfort operating in a small, meritocratic team without heavy hierarchy
• Commercial instinct for where an agency can create additional value for a client
• Ownership mentality, focused on outcomes rather than task completion
• Experience working across both US and UK markets is an advantage
