Job summary

The State of Indiana, Department of Child Services, is seeking an Account Adjustment Specialist to process adjustment requests, log checks, review reports, and respond to inquiries. You will work with legacy ISETS and the evolving INvest system, meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy across multiple tasks.

Responsibilities include logging funds, adjusting balances, researching case data, and collaborating with internal and county staff to ensure excellent service. A degree is not required.

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.
  • Broad knowledge of federal and state laws, policies and procedures pertaining to government accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Broad knowledge of agency function and organization.
  • Broad knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to solve standard accounting problems.
  • Ability to evaluate and modify accounting policy and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to assist in budget preparation.
  • Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations.

  • Reconcile accounts and subsidiary ledgers with general ledger.
  • Post transactions to cost summary journals.
  • Prepare accounting and financial reports from the accounts maintained.
  • Prepare, correct, and adjust entries prior to closing accounts.
  • Analyze procurement activity and disbursal of funds and assist in the preparation of program area budget requests.
  • Review accounts to ensure availability of funds before encumbrances and advises supervisor if account balance is not in agreement with State Auditor’s Office.
  • Ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled prior to payment to vendors for services or purchases.
  • Secure specifications and requisitions for purchases of equipment, furniture, and supplies.
  • Monitor verification and editing of ledger input to computerized accounting system for the specific program area.
  • Recommend changes in accounting policies and methods and assist in developing accounting procedures.

Role Overview:

This Account Adjustment Specialist receives adjustment requests and follows agency procedures to complete the adjustments. You will complete multiple adjustment types, receive and log checks, assist with check and letter mailings, review reports, and respond to emails and phone calls. This role requires that you are able to meet deadlines, produce timely and accurate work, and adapt to new tasks as necessary.

Key outcomes for this role are:

  • Gain and maintain robust knowledge of the legacy child support enforcement system (ISETS) and the developing system modernization (INvest).
  • Complete various types of financial adjustments using departmental procedures and resolve in the adjustment management program.
  • Log and/or process incoming checks, when appropriate.
  • Adjust case balances, as appropriate.
  • Research case and transaction information in the statewide computer system and/or the document image system.
  • Partner with internal and county stakeholders to complete assigned tasks and provide excellent customer service, both written and verbal.
  • Assist with special projects.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at$39,000.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
