Job summary

Baylor University seeks an Accommodation Specialist to support accessibility by ensuring compliance with ADA and Section 504. You will work with students, faculty, and staff to plan, facilitate, and implement reasonable accommodations that enable an inclusive learning environment.

A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. The role requires one year of relevant experience, with education and experience considered in combination.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a manageable case load that involves reviewing medical documentation.
  • Meet with students for their intake process and support them if issues arise related to their accommodations.
  • Troubleshooting and provide guidance around the implementation of accommodations.
  • Attend weekly case reviews with the OALA staff and offer input around student cases.
  • Serve as a liaison and work with campus partners to support students with disabilities and the rendering of accommodations.
  • Develop effective work relationships with faculty and staff and provide guidance on ADA compliance and best practices.
  • Interpret information from medical, psychological, and educational documentation and update student records accordingly.
  • Monitor, track, and produce records to support students and institutional reports.
  • Learn and utilize software platforms used by OALA and Baylor University.
  • Assist with campus outreach to raise awareness of services.

What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking an Accommodation Specialist tosupport the institution by ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This is done by working with students, faculty, and staff to plan, facilitate, and implement reasonable accommodations. This role will support OALAs mission to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment that accommodates the diverse needs of Baylor students.

What You Will Do

  • Troubleshooting and provide guidance and clarity to students, faculty, and staff around the implementation of accommodations
  • Attend weekly case reviews with the OALA staff and offer input around student cases
  • Serve as a liaison and work with various campus partners to support students with disabilities and the rendering of their accommodations
  • Develop effective work relationships with faculty and staff and provide guidance, training, and information in the areas of ADA compliance and best practices
  • Interpret information from medical, psychological, and educational documentation and update and maintain student records with up-to-date student notes and information
  • Monitor, track, and produce records and data to comprehensively support students and to assist OALA with institutional reports and data management efforts
  • Learn and utilize various software platforms utilized by OALA and Baylor University
  • Assist with outreach efforts on campus to raise awareness and communicate services to the Baylor community
  • Provide feedback regarding policies, procedures, and processes to the assistant director and director to ensure clarity and best practices are in place to minimize barriers and allow for a more positive experience for students who interact with OALA
  • Maintain regular and consistent 1-1 with meetings with Assistant Director of Accessibility to review and discuss any necessary programmatic, personnel, or students’ cases and to develop timely solutions and action plans
  • Attend OALA staff meetings and engage in professional development activities through training, professional memberships, and conferences as time and budget allows
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to support Assistant Director and OALA office by engaging in other duties as needed, specifically supporting testing center efforts during midterms and finals
  • Proactively communicate any gaps in services, knowledge, and processes they identify in order for OALA staff and leadership to remedy these as soon as possible
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
