Fayetteville State University’s Center for Counseling and Accessibility Services (CCAS) seeks an Accessibility Coordinator to ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to academic programs and campus facilities under the ADA and related laws.

The role reports to the Associate Director of Accessibility Services and focuses on coordinating accommodations and promoting accessibility across campus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a Higher Education related discipline.
  • 1-2 years of progressive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake independent projects and manage competing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively balance multiple and competing issues.
  • Ability to advocate for students with disabilities while maintaining collegial relationships.

The primary mission of The Center for Counseling and Accessibility Services ( CCAS ) is to provide programs and outreach services to promote student engagement and assist in the emotional, psychological, physical and intellectual development of students with diverse backgrounds.
CCAS provides counseling services, accessibility accommodations, and disability support services designed to ensure equitable access to academic programs, campus facilities, and university services. Accessibility Services (AS) ensures compliance with federal and state disability laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), ADA Amendments Act ( ADAAA ), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Accessibility Services coordinates reasonable accommodations, provides consultation to faculty and staff, and promotes inclusive practices that remove barriers to learning and participation for students with disabilities.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Accessibility Coordinator serves as a disability services professional within the Center for Counseling and Accessibility Services and reports to the Associate Director of Accessibility Services. The Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing reasonable accommodations that ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to academic programs, campus facilities, and university services in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), ADA Amendments Act ( ADAAA ), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The Accessibility Coordinator works directly with students, faculty, and campus partners to determine appropriate accommodations, facilitate the implementation of accommodations, and provide consultation regarding accessibility practices and inclusive learning environments. The position also assists with outreach, training, and educational initiatives designed to promote disability awareness and accessibility across the university community

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a Higher Education related discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience:
  • 1-2 years of progressive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake independent projects and manage competing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a Higher Education related discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Direct experience determining eligibility for disability related accommodations.
  • Experience working in a college of university disability services office.
  • Familiarity with various neuropsychological, psycho-educational and psychological
  • assessment batteries used in the diagnosis of learning disabilities, mental health conditions,
  • ADHD , traumatic brain injury and interpreting the data from such reports into appropriate
  • accommodations for the post-secondary setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, training or experience interpreting federal and state laws
  • regarding disability rights and their application to higher education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of understanding of disability rights and disability culture.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
