Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience.
• Ability to ensure and apply compliance with federal disability law including the ADA and Section 504, as well as relevant university policies.
• Excellent organizational skills including effective time management, and flexibility to adapt to competing priorities.
• Advanced customer service skills, demonstrated in the ability to work with students, parents, faculty, and other campus stakeholders in high pressure and complex situations.
• Ability to develop strong relationships with students and other constituents in a professional manner.
• Ability to think critically, exercise independent judgement when appropriate, while taking direction from department leadership.
• Thoughtful reasoning, resourcefulness, initiative, discernment, collaborative team player, and a high degree of motivation is required.
• Understanding of student development theories and training.
• Knowledge and embodiment of diversity and inclusion best practices. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups from various identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
• Willingness to take on new challenges in a dynamic and changing environment and work gracefully under pressure.
• Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
• Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with students with a diverse range of disabilities to determine appropriate and reasonable academic and housing accommodations on a case-by-case basis.
• Collaborate with staff and faculty throughout the University to guide the interactive process and assist in the implementation of reasonable accommodations.
• Understand, interpret, and apply University policies and procedures.
• Advise students on issues such as disclosure, disability management, reasonability, rights and responsibilities.
• Collaborate and work closely with various university partners/stakeholders such as Residential and Dining Enterprises, VPUE, academic departments, professional schools, Institutional Equity and Access, and others within VPSA.
• Facilitate trainings, or workshops and represent the department at campus outreach events for the broad learning and engagement of student, staff, and faculty.
• Confer on complex cases with manager and colleagues.
• Direct students to grievances processes.
• Maintain records of activities with students, including communications, documentation, and meeting notes.
• Implement policies and procedures to support the facilitation of reasonable accommodations in the academic and housing settings.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.
