Job description

Department/Unit: Patient Access. Work Shift: Day (United States of America). Salary Range: $59,066.00 - $88,599.00.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of the unit, ensuring coverage to support efficient patient throughput and adherence to key performance indicators such as registration time, copayment collection, registration accuracy, and timely resolution of Epic pre- and post-registration work queues.
  • Approve personal leave or combined leave time, track FMLA, and sign off on KRONOS weekly.
  • Monitor lateness and unscheduled absences and elevate performance issues to the manager.
  • Multi-task in a high-stress, mission-critical environment.
  • Support the manager with all human resource functions—interview, hire, counseling, coaching for improvement, and termination as warranted.
  • Assist in yearly or ad-hoc performance reviews, focusing on development and succession planning.
  • Assign and schedule patient-facing coverage; self-allocate if necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations and guidelines.
  • Review and approve time-off requests while maintaining adequate coverage.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace free of intolerance, harassment, and non-inclusive behaviors.
  • Audit workflows in real time, standardize and maintain registration accuracy, and update the training manual as required.
  • Ensure patients needing inpatient or observation stays have regulatory forms completed before transfer.
  • Complete annual evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe environment for staff and patients, escalating issues to security when warranted.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of hospital billing and registration experience; 5-7 years if no associate degree.

  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership success.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle best practices for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Ability to supervise in a highly stressful, dynamic, high-acuity environment.
  • Ability to analyze, trend, and track revenue-cycle issues that impede clean claims.
  • Excellent proficiency with spreadsheets and Excel.
  • Strong customer focus aimed at optimal patient experience.
  • Knowledge of information-technology integration concepts and system-issue identification.
  • Experience with policy and procedure development and adult-learner training resources.
  • Rapid problem-solving skills for operational issues impacting patient flow.
  • Excellent organizational, methodical planning, and time-management skills.
  • Success managing a high-functioning team and maintaining a positive culture.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, EMTALA, Joint Commission, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) within 1.5 years required; learning partner and leadership modules preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
