Job summary

The University of Houston's Central Facility Services department seeks a locksmith to install, inspect, maintain and repair electronic locking systems and automatic doors on campus. The role requires adherence to state security policies and routine review of credentials to protect critical infrastructure.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license, and at least six months of related experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED; education in lieu of experience accepted.
• Experience: Minimum six months of directly related experience.
• Licensing: Valid Texas Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs and modifies access control board readers, electric locks and related devices.
• Maintains electronic locking systems, including electric strikes and hinges.
• Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces motors and gearboxes.
• Keeps records of locking systems, card keys, locations, authorizations and inventory; records labor costs and prepares reports.
• Procures and maintains parts and materials for work activities.
• Surveys systems and recommends keying and sub-keying schemes.
• May perform the duties of a journeyman locksmith as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
