Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a patient access representative for the Chemical Dependency Brighton Clinic. You will interview patients, collect registration data, verify insurance, and assist with financial counseling.

This full-time day shift role requires strong customer service, basic computer skills, and attention to detail. You will interact with patients, payers, and providers while ensuring accurate data and compliant processes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• One year of customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage incoming calls and provide necessary information.
• Greet patients or their representatives and provide directions.
• Schedule and preschedule patient appointments.
• Interview patients to collect required information and complete registration.
• Identify unbilled services and follow up on financial assistance or payment plans.
• Verify insurance eligibility and obtain precertifications/authorizations.
• Collect and process co-payments and other payments; estimate costs.
• Review charges for completeness and accuracy.
• Ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Communicate with payers, physician offices, and departments.
• Create new patient records in Care Connect.
• Occasionally interpret, if qualified.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• RGMG Only: Flexibility and transportation to other locations may be required.

Summary

In a customer service oriented manner, interviews patients and/or their representative to collect required registration data, to include but is not limited to; demographic and financial data as well as obtain required signatures, communicates mandated patient information and verifies all information for accuracy. Process includes but is not limited to insurance verification, obtaining precertification/authorization, co-payment collection and communicating with patient and/or their representative with regards to their financial assistance needs.

• Identification of services where no payment source has been identified to be followed up by communication of financial assistance and/or payment arrangements.
• Verification of insurance eligibility/coverage and obtaining necessary precertifications/authorizations when applicable.
• Collecting/processing co-payments, deductables and/or other types of payments. Provides an estimate of cost when applicable.
• Reviews charges in charge review WQs for completeness and accuracy.
• Ensures the accuracy of all data collected while meeting the regulatory requirements as outlined by the departmental policy.
• Communication with external customers such as but not limited to; payers, physician offices and other departments.
• Accurately sets up new patient record via Care Connect.
• If qualified, may be asked to interpret on occasion.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• RGMG Only: Flexibility and transportation to other medical group locations or other affiliated locations required.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. Some roles may require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
